Flowers and spring are unanimous; you can’t think of one without the other. So it is no wonder that spring wedding will reflect this element. Keeping with the trends, wedding dresses this year are high on floral embellishment for the bride as well as bridesmaid, and even the dresses of close relatives like the mother of the bride or groom. So if you are planning to wear a sheath wedding gown to the wedding of your cousin or a ball gown, add color to it by including embroidered 3D-bud and blossoms. If you love the vintage look of 40s and 50s, you can choose to wear a pretty A-line dress with floral add-ons near the waistline and bodice. This is perfect especially if the wedding is being held on the afternoon or morning or if the wedding is being held in a park or some open-air area.

I may have to dub this Pink Week. Pink and pastel pinks always inspired me. I'm looking at the range of it from the mauvey satin ribbon to the rose beige pearls and it gives me such a buzz to create these types of wedding dresses and wedding gowns.

Time Honored Wedding Dresses

Lace as we know it evokes images of woven florals and scalloped edges on flounced skirts and collars. Though these time-honored looks will always be with us, lately we’re seeing new spins on the use of lace in bridal wear. Not only are the traditionals like Alencon and Chantilly now used in cutting edge ways, new inventions in knit and revivals in cotton and crocheted laces are showing up. Some of it is being used discreetly on no more than a sleeve or yoke of a wedding dress, while the high drama of donning all over lace from collar to hemline is chic as well.

I've always loved square necklines which you don't see a whole lot of in bridal these days. Like the scoop neckline, a square will show off a beautiful decolletage. I accented the shoulders with white organza bows and small hydrangeas.

Wedding Dress - Designing

Designing wedding dresses can be a lot like writing a story. The elements of that design are screaming to be created and won't let you rest till you sew the last button on and stitch the last of the hem. The finished dress needs to have character and be just a little different. In this case, everything about the Madelyn Dress is different. I saw it in my head with a rosy-beige lining underneath all those layers of tulle so I knew the tulle had to be tea-dyed to correspond. The bodice is adorned in cutout lace motifs with shirred and pleated tulle over it. The hook and eye fasteners down the back replace the traditional button closure to give it that vintage look with a contemporary twist.

This is a favorite look of mine for sentimental reasons – both my mother and my sister got married in wedding gowns with a lace overlay and long lace sleeves.
