Perhaps I’ll change my mind about this if/when I become a bride myself, but right now I think it’s impractical to spend too much money on a dress you’ll only wear once in your life.

Travelling with your Wedding Gown

A lace sheath or lace a-line is the easiest to travel with. The lace never wrinkles and you can fold the wedding gown neatly into a carry-on so you won't have to check your gown with your luggage. If lace is not your style, you should consider a chiffon or charmeuse gown. Both are very lightweight, easy to pack and can easily be steamed once you arrive at your destination. Traveling with an elaborate full ball gown is difficult unless you are willing to ship your gown to your destination. If this is the case, see if your bridal salon will pack the gown for you. For a fee, many salons will even ship and insure your gown. If you have any beaded detail on your gown you should wrap the beaded portion with a lightweight plastic, tissue paper or organza. This will cover the beaded portion during transit. It will prevent the beading to rub against and potentially damage the fabric on the gown.BEFORE you arrive at your destination, arrange to have your gown re-steamed or pressed in the hotel or a nearby bridal salon. Advise them of the date you will be bringing them the gown as well as the fabric and style of the gown so they are prepared.

Out of Town Wedding Plan

If you're planning a wedding out-of-town, don't forget to send save-the-date cards to your guests. These should go out six months to a year before the big day. That's well in advance of the invitation, which for a destination wedding should go out at least eight weeks prior.

What's a save-the-date? It's simply a card or note that literally requests that people hold a particular date open on their calendar so they don't schedule anything else in the meantime for that date.

The importance of save-the-dates for destination weddings is obvious. Guests will have to travel to your wedding. So they'll have to take more time out of their schedule (and more money out of their budgets) than if the wedding were close by. Your guests will need extra time to plan.

It always fascinates me that even those who are rich and famous still seek out the simple things in life, such as a stunning beach setting in which to wed. You can dress it up or down as well as make it lavish and extravagant or simple, elegant, and romantic as actor, Taye Diggs, and Broadway actress, Idina Menzel, did in Jamaica.

Taye evidently fell in love with Jamaica when he was on location filming there, so it made sense that he would return with his fiancé and have a Jamaica wedding. The couple married at sunset in Montego Bay, Jamaica as the waves kissed the shore of their beach wedding, and a group of 60 family members and friends looked on.

Destination Wedding Gowns, Wedding Dresses

Wedding Gowns, Destination Wedding Dresses

If you want to be more of a traditional bride even though you are having a destination wedding, then keep some tradition with your wedding dress. Some woman don't feel like they are wearing a wedding dress unless it has a train. For destination wedding dresses, you want to stick with dresses that have a slight train. These types of destination wedding dresses give you the classic style and are still feasible for a destination wedding.

Wedding Dress Types, Wedding Gowns

Your wedding dress should have delicate details to it and not be overpowering in any way. Things such as soft layers or a sheer overlay fit well into this style. If you are going for this style you should avoid destination wedding dresses that are too structured and heavy looking. Avoid dresses like ballroom gowns and ones that are body hugging style. Instead look for ones that have an empire waist and float away from the body without being too big.

Destination Wedding Gowns, Wedding Dresses

There are plenty of plus size destination wedding dresses available, but what exactly should you look for? Shopping for a wedding dress should be a happy experience and not a stressful one. Knowing what will look best on your body can make shopping for your plus size wedding dress an enjoyable occasion. First, most wedding dresses run small. So, if you regularly wear a size 18 in women's, don't be surprised if you need to order a size 20 for your dress. Don't allow the size of your dress to discourage you. Most destination wedding dresses are made up to a size 24 or even sometimes a size 32. When shopping for your plus size wedding dress, choose a style that flatters your figure the most. An A-line cut flatters almost every body type. If you have larger hips that you want to hide, think about getting a princess cut style that will hide your hips or get a dress that has wider straps to help offset your wider hips. You may have to try on a variety of destination wedding dresses before you find one that flatters your specific figure the most. Even though you may be having a destination wedding, you may want to choose a wedding dress that has a thicker fabric, as they are less likely to cling to your body, which can be unflattering. Lastly, just because you are buying a plus size wedding dress, doesn't meant that you still can't be sexy and beautiful on your wedding day. Don't just pick a dress that you think others will like or approve of. Be sure to pick a wedding dress that you feel good in.

Bridal Gowns, Wedding Dresses

Chiffon destination wedding dresses are one of my favorite as they are simply stunning and the fabric gives the wearer a soft, elegant look that appears to flow as they walk. This, along with the fact that chiffon destination wedding dresses are made from a lightweight and airy fabric, makes them perfect for beach weddings. This, in turn, makes chiffon destination wedding dresses extremely easy to pack into a suitcase because the fabric is wrinkle-resistant and hard to damage and, yet, it looks simply stunning when worn.
